Thank you to 392nd District Court Judge Scott McKee for doing the right thing and rejecting a plea bargain for a man accused of Criminally Negligent Homicide.
The charge stems from a 2017 automobile wreck that killed a Henderson County man and resulted in the other driver being indicted by the Grand Jury for Possession of Controlled Substance and Criminally Negligent Homicide.
The plea agreed to by our District Attorney, without input from the deceased’s family, would have placed the criminal on probation without receiving a sentence for jail time.
Judge McKee asked one very important question before ruling on the plea. A question vitally important to our clients, the victim’s family.
He asked if his family agreed to the deal.
Unfortunately, our DA had never bothered to ask the family.
So, on behalf of the victim’s family, thank you Judge McKee, for rejecting this ridiculous backdoor deal. Your decision shows a real dedication to justice and to the county’s law-abiding citizens.
