Here’s a look at work planned in the district during the Week of July 16, 2018. Schedules are subject to change due to weather conditions, equipment failure or other unforeseen issues. Slow down and pay attention when traveling through work zones.

Motorists should prepare for lane closures on I-20 throughout the week as the contractor for the Toll 49 Lindale Relief Route project paints the bridge railing and beams for the mainlane and northbound bridges. The closures will be implemented from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday thru Thursday, and from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., Friday moving from I-20 westbound to I-20 eastbound. Additionally, shoulder closures are set for US 69 at the Toll 49 intersection for work on large signs. Work will be performed Monday and Tuesday starting with the northbound shoulder.

Summer seal coat operations continue in the Tyler District. Motorists should expect lane closures and delays during this work to seal and protect roadways from water, and provide a longer life cycle. Because the time to complete work on each roadway is estimated, these schedules are subject to change.

Upcoming work is as follows in Gregg, Henderson and Smith counties:

Tue., July 17: FM 16 from SH 110 at Garden Valley, east to two miles west of FM 849/CR 476
Wed ., July 18: SH 64 from Toll 49 in Smith County to FM 314 in Van Zandt County
Thurs., July 19: FM 2010 in Henderson County from FM 315 to the Van Zandt County line
Fri., July 20: FM 607 from SH 31 to FM 317 in Henderson County
Sat., July 21: FM 317 from SH 31 in Athens east to one mile west of FM 1803/Muscadine Bridge

Anderson County

Crews plan to perform edge work on SH 294 between Elkhart and FM 228. Base repairs will be conducted on FM 1817 from FM 2022 to FM 323, and on FM 323 between FM 1817 and SH 294. Expect lane closures with flaggers managing traffic control.

Anderson County construction projects updates:

US 79 New Lane Construction Project

Limits: From 1.6 miles southwest of Loop 256 in Palestine south to the Trinity River
Contractor: Longview Bridge and Road, Ltd., of Longview
Cost: $42.7 million
Anticipated Completion Date: Summer 2018
The contractor is performing closeout activities on this job. The project is expanding a 5.3-mile section of US 79 from two lanes to a four-lane divided highway with a continuous left-turn lane and a depressed median.

SH 19 Widening Project

Limits: From 3.6 miles N of FM 837 (Henderson Co. line) south to .4 mile N of FM 321 at Montalba
Contractor: Big Creek Construction of Hewitt
Cost: $12.5 million
Anticipated Completion Date: Summer 2018
The contractor is preparing for the start of hot mix paving operations. Expect lanes closures daily and watch for turning truck traffic. The project is widening the roadway with the addition of shoulders and passing lanes. The posted speed limit is 55 mph.

US 79 at UPRR Overpass Project

Limits: 1.5 miles east of FM 2574 to 0.5 miles past UPRR Overpass
Contractor: Drewery Construction Company, Inc., of Nacogdoches
Cost: $1.6 million
Anticipated Completion Date: September 2018
The southbound right shoulder is closed for placement of concrete traffic barriers across the bridge to facilitate work on the bridge rail and Metal Beam Guard Fence. The work will eliminate the southbound shoulder. The speed limit has been reduced to 60 mph. The project includes, cleaning and painting steel girders, bridge rail replacement, and a concrete overlay of the existing bridge deck.

Cherokee County

Crews plan to conduct hot mix blade overlay operations on FM 747 between US 84 and US 79. Expect lane closures with flaggers providing traffic control.

Cherokee County construction projects updates:

US 69 Widening through Wells

Limits: From 2 miles north of FM 1247 in Wells, south to 0.9 miles south of FM 1247
Contractor: Longview Bridge and Road, Ltd., of Longview
Cost: $17.6 million
Anticipated Completion Date: December 2018
Earth work and structure work continue on the west side of the roadway. The project is widening US 69 through Wells from two lanes to four lanes with new curb and gutter and a two-way left turn lane through town. There are minimal impacts on traffic. The speed limit has been reduced on the northern end of the project until work is completed.

Gregg County

Crews plan to continue work to address sight distance on FM 2275 at the intersection of Airline County Road. Most of the work is off the roadway. Lane closures are possible with flaggers managing traffic control.

Gregg County construction projects updates:

SH 300/Gilmer Road Overlay

Limits: US 80 to FM 2275/George Richey Road
Contractor: Madden Contracting Company, LLC
Cost: $6.6 million
Anticipated Completion Date: End of Summer 2018
Alternating nighttime lane closures can be expected Sunday through Thursday nights. Work will be conducted from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m., starting Sunday. The project includes placing a hot mix overlay and installing new pavement markings on the roadway from US 80 to FM 2275/George Richey Road

I-20 Eastbound Lanes Overlay

Limits: 0.5 miles west of SH 135 to 0.5 miles west of SH 31
Contractor: Madden Contracting Co., LLC
Cost: $2.5 million
Anticipated Completion Date: Summer 2018
On Monday, the entrance ramp on SH 135 to I-20 eastbound will be closed for guardrail installation. The project consists of milling and overlaying the I-20 eastbound lanes and installing Metal Beam Guard Fence.

SH 135 Kilgore Overlay

Limits: From North of Traffic Circle in Kilgore to .5 miles north of SH 31
Contractor: Madden Contracting Company, LLC
Cost: $2.4 million
Anticipated Completion Date: End of Summer 2018
The project is in Phase II construction with one lane only for southbound traffic throughout the project limits. Bridge rail work is being conducted on the west side of the road on this project to overlay SH 135 from just north of the Kilgore Circle to just north of SH 31 intersection. Motorists should expect delays. Work includes hot mix overlay, new pavement markings, new bridge rail and new Metal Beam Guard Fence.

US 80 Widening in Gladewater

Limits: Loop 485 to Locker Plant Road
Contractor: Longview Bridge and Road
Cost: $3.5 million
Anticipated Completion Date: Summer 2018
Phase II construction continues with the roadway reduced to one lane of travel for both westbound and eastbound traffic. Work continues on storm sewer, curb and gutter, and flex-base on the north side of the roadway. The project consists of widening US 80 to four through lanes with a left turn lane from Loop 485 to Locker Plant Road.

Loop 281 at FM 1845/Pine Tree Road

Limits: From US 80 to Shofner Drive
Contractor: Longview Bridge and Road, Ltd., of Longview
Cost: $4.5 million
Anticipated Completion Date: Summer 2018
Expect single lane closures as the contractor conducts work on this project. Traffic is in its final lane configuration in each direction. The project includes widening the roadway, installing storm drain, grading and base work, curb and gutter, raised medians, surface, signs and pavement markings.

SH 149 at Sabine River

Limits: From SH 322 to approximately one half-mile north of the Sabine River Bridge
Contractor: Gibson and Associates
Cost: $3.1 million
Anticipated Completion Date: Summer 2018
Traffic is in the normal configuration with two lanes flowing in each direction. Expect alternating lane closures daily as the contractor continues work on the project. The project includes constructing new rails and sidewalk on the bridge, increasing its load carrying capacity, and installing new guardrail on I-20.

Henderson County

Crews plan to perform mill and inlay operations on SH 31W in Trinidad. Surface work will be conducted on BU 31W between the “Y” and Loop 7. Expect lane closures with flaggers providing traffic control at all locations.

Henderson County construction projects updates:

SH 31 Overlay Project

Limits: From FM 3204 E to 0.5 miles West of FM 315 in Chandler
Contractor: Big Creek Construction of Hewitt
Cost: $2.7 Million
Anticipated Completion Date: Fall 2018
Mill and inlay operations are underway necessitating daily lane closures. The project consists of base repairs, mill and inlay, seal coating, surface hot mix, Metal Beam Guard Fence upgrades, and the installation of signs and pavement markings.

Striping Operations

Limits: SH 334 from Cedar Creek Reservoir Bridge to east of SH 198; SH 198 from Kaufman County Line to south of Cedar Creek Reservoir Bridge – cement sections only
Contractor: Striping Technology, LP
Cost: $153,363.00
Anticipated Completion Date: Summer 2018
The contractor is removing old striping and short line and working to replace stop bars and cross walks on this project in the Gun Barrel City area. The work includes water blast removal of the old thermos-striping, buttons and short line (stop bars, yield bars, arrows, wordage, etc.). Once the old striping is removed, the roadways will be restriped with paint first, then with thermo-stripe. The installation of new buttons and short line will follow. Signage notifying motorists of this project have been installed along the project limits and various other locations.

SH 19 Widening Project

Limits: FM 1615 South to 0.3 miles south of Coon Creek
Contractor: A.L. Helmcamp
Cost: $ 4.9 million
Anticipated Completion Date: Spring 2019
The contractor is set to begin cement treating subgrade for the shoulder widening on the northbound side of the roadway. Expect daily lane closures. The speed limit has been reduced to 60 mph for the duration of the project which consists of adding 10-foot shoulders on both the northbound and southbound travel lanes.

US 175 Widening Project (Phase I)

Limits: From 0.1 mile SE of FM 804 near Baxter SE to 1.1 miles E of Loop 60E at Larue
Contractor: A.L. Helmcamp, Inc. and Big Creek Construction
Cost: $39.2 million
Anticipated Completion Date: November 2018
Hot mix paving operations continue on the westbound lanes from Baxter to one mile east of Larue. Caution is advised as trucks enter and exit the work zone. Construction to realign Loop 60 at the intersection of US 175 in Larue continues. Work is ongoing on the new westbound mainlanes from CR 4720 to CR 4719 in Larue. Construction of new culverts continues along the old roadway (proposed westbound lanes) between Baxter and Larue. The speed limit is 55 mph on this project to expand US 175 from two lanes to a four-lane divided highway with a depressed median.

US 175 Widening Project (Phase II)

Limits: From 1.1 miles E of Loop 60B at Larue to 0.85 mile E of FM 315 at Poynor
Contractor: Sundt Construction, Inc., of San Antonio
Cost: $37.8 million
Anticipated Completion Date: Summer 2018
Eastbound traffic is open to a two-lane configuration. The easternmost access to FM 315 and Downtown Poynor is now open to traffic. Closeout activities are ongoing in various locations.

This Phase II project is expanding US 175 from two lanes to a four-lane divided with a depressed median. The project limits stretch 4.7 miles ending just east of FM 315 in Poynor. The speed limit has been set at 60 mph. A portion of this phase is being built on new location around the south side of Poynor. This is a mobility project to add capacity and improve safety and includes adding one lane in each direction.

US 175 Widening Project (Phase III) in Anderson County

Limits: From 0.85 mile E of FM 315 in Poynor SE to .5 mile NW of SH 155 at Frankston
Contractor: A.L. Helmcamp, Inc.
Cost: $27.6 million
Anticipated Completion Date: October 2019
Traffic is on the westbound lanes as an undivided highway running east/west as work is conducted in the eastbound lanes. The contractor is installing driveway pipe and box culverts in the two southern most lanes from Elm St. to Cemetery Road. Installation requires the contractor to clear/grub and excavate. SW3P items are continuously installed on the project which is expanding US 175 from two lanes to a four-lane divided highway with a depressed median.

Rusk County

Crews plan to continue edge maintenance on FM 850 from US 259 to SH 42 as well as edge and ditch maintenance on SH 42 from FM 918 to FM 2012. Expect lane closures with flaggers and a pilot car providing traffic control.

Smith County

Maintenance and Special Crews plan to continue seal coat operations at several locations. On Monday, work will be conducted on SH 135 starting at the Four Way Stop heading north to SH 64. Work includes sealing the interchanges and approaches on each side of the bridge. Work will also be conducted on Spur 80. The operation moves to FM 2015 between FM 16 and FM 14 on Tuesday-Wednesday and on Thursday-Friday work will be conducted on SH 31E at FM 2661. Expect lane closures with flaggers providing traffic control.

Smith County construction projects updates:

US 69 Resurfacing Project

Limits: From FM 346, south to the Cherokee County Line
Contractor: Drewery Construction Co. Inc.
Cost: $3.6 million
Anticipated Completion Date: Fall 2018
The contractor will be performing paving operations on the mainlanes in Bullard near FM 344 utilizing daily lane closures. The project consists of pavement repair and placing a new Permeable Friction Course (PFC) surface.

CR 356 & CR 234 Bridge Replacement Project

Limits: CR 356 at Simpson Creek, east of Winona; CR 234 at Mud Creek
Contractor: Stateline Construction, LLC
Cost: $800,000.00
Anticipated Completion Date: Spring 2019
Bridge substructure work continues with both roadways closed and traffic detoured. The project is replacing the existing bridges with wider ones.

FM 346 Bridge Replacement Project

Limits: FM 346 at Prairie Creek, south of Lake Tyler
Contractor: Stateline Construction, LLC
Cost: $2 million
Anticipated Completion Date: Spring 2019
The contractor is performing earthwork operations on the bridge approaches. The speed limit through the work zone has been reduced to 45 mph. The project is replacing the existing bridge with a wider one.

Legacy Trails – Hike and Bike Trail Development

Limits: West Trail: Three Lakes Pkwy to FM 2813; East Trail: Three Lake Pkwy to Cumberland Rd
Contractor: Reynolds & Kay LTD.
Cost: $4.6 million
Anticipated Completion Date: Spring 2019
No lane closures are planned as the contractor continues sidewalk construction along the east trail between Dueling Oaks and Cumberland Road. The project consists of constructing 4.4 miles of hike and bike trails in Southwest Tyler. It includes the construction of parking lots, driveways, landscaping, pedestrian ramps, crosswalks and drainage structures along the 10-foot wide hike and bike trails.

FM 849 Bridge Replacement Project

Limits: FM 849 at I-20
Contractor: Longview Bridge & Road, Ltd., of Longview
Cost: $4.6 million
Anticipated Completion Date: Spring 2018
The contractor continues to establish vegetation and perform final cleanup activities. No lane closures are planned. This is an emergency bridge replacement project consisting of removing the existing steel and concrete structure and replacing it with a new 4-span reinforced concrete structure. Work also includes the widening of the bridge approaches and improvements to the I-20 ramps.

FM 850 Bridge Replacement Project

Limits: FM 850 at Mud Creek just east of FM 21
Contractor: Stateline Construction
Cost: $1.1 million
Anticipated Completion Date: Summer 2018
The contractor continues final cleanup activities on this bridge replacement project.

Spur 248 Widening Project

Limits: From 1.75 miles west of FM 848/Old Omen Road going east to SH 64 southeast of Tyler
Contractor: Lonestar Equipment Company, Inc.
Cost: $8.6 million
Anticipated Completion Date: Summer 2018
Expect daily lane closures as the contractor conducts seal coat and paving operations. The speed limit is 55 mph during construction to widen Spur 248 from two lanes to a four-lane divided roadway with a flush median.

Turn Lanes Project

Limits: Various locations throughout Tyler
Contractor: Lonestar Equipment Company, Inc.
Cost: $2.4 million
Anticipated Completion Date: Summer 2018
Work continues to construct right turn lanes on Grande Boulevard and Old Jacksonville Highway. No lane closures are planned. Expect daytime lane closures from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The project is removing the existing medians to extend the turn lanes and adding right turn lanes to various intersections in Tyler. Work locations include US 69, Cumberland Road, Independence, South Donnybrook, Rice, South Town and wrap up at Grande and FM 2493.

Van Zandt County

Crews plan to address drainage issues around the county. Lane closures are possible.

Van Zandt County construction projects updates:

SH 64 Widening Project (New Project)

Limits: From FM 16 to FM 858
Contractor: Big Creek Construction of Hewitt, TX
Cost: $9.6 million
Anticipated Completion Date: December 2019
The contractor is scheduled to set project barricades, Monday, July 16. The project is widening the roadway with the addition of shoulders and passing lanes. The current posted speed limits will be reduced – 70 mph locations drop to 60 mph; and 60 mph areas decrease to 50 mph.

FM 16 at FM 314 Intersection Improvements

Limits: Intersection of FM 16 and FM 314
Contractor: Reynolds and Kay, LTD.
Cost: $497,000.00
Anticipated Completion Date: October 2018
This project consists of paving and drainage improvements at the intersection. Traffic shift is in place. Expect periodic delays with flaggers providing traffic control.

County Road Bridge Replacement Project

Limits: CR 3415 at Giladon Creek, CR 1903 at Mill Creek Relief, CR 2142 at Caney Creek
Contractor: B & E Construction, Inc.
Cost: $904,800.00
Anticipated Completion Date: December 2018
This project consists of the replacement of three county road bridges in Van Zandt County. Work is underway on the CR 1903 Bridge at Mill Creek Relief which is closed for the duration of construction.

I-20 Westbound Exit Ramp at FM 314 Relocation Project

Limits: From FM 314 WB Exit Ramp and Frontage Road
Contractor: Longview Bridge and Road, Ltd., of Longview
Cost: $4.6 million
Anticipated Completion Date: Summer 2018
The contractor is conducting final cleanup activities on this project that consists of reconstructing the frontage road and building a new exit ramp 1.13 miles east of FM 314.

I-20 Safety Work

Limits: From Kaufman County Line going east to SH 19, etc.
Contractor: FNH Construction, LLC
Cost: $2.4 million
Anticipated Completion Date: Fall 2018
The contractor is removing and installing Metal Beam Guard Fence and concrete mow strip along FM 85 in Henderson County. Expect lane closures with a pilot car providing traffic control.

FM 314 Widening Project

Limits: From I-20 to the Van Zandt/Henderson County line
Contractor: A.L. Helmcamp, Inc., of Buffalo
Cost: $11.9 million
Anticipated Completion Date: Summer 2018
The contractor is conducting cleanup activities from I-20 to SH 64. Minor delays and lane closures are possible.

SH 243 Widening Project

Limits: From SH 198 east to SH 64 in Canton
Contractor: Longview Bridge and Road
Cost: $6.2 million
Anticipated Completion Date: June 2018
Structure, road widening, and driveway work, is ongoing on the north side of the road. Minor delays can be expected. The project is widening the roadway from two to four lanes with a flush median, curb and gutter, and storm drain.

FM 1256 Widening Project

Limits: From FM 316 eastward to SH 19
Contractor: Longview Bridge and Road, Ltd., of Longview
Cost: $5.8 million
Anticipated Completion Date: Fall 2018
The contractor continues roadway rehabilitation and widening work. Cross-structure and driveway activities are ongoing throughout the project limits. Expect delays with a pilot vehicle and flaggers controlling traffic.

FM 1652 Rehab Project

Limits: FM 17 south of Grand Saline, southward to FM 1255 northwest of Oakland
Contractor: Highway 19 Construction, LLC
Cost: $4.5 million
Anticipated Completion Date: Fall 2018
Rehabilitation and widening work is being conducted on a two-mile section on the south end of the roadway. Pavement base preparation is ongoing on this project that is widening the existing roadway and includes structure work. Expect lane closures with flaggers providing traffic control.

FM 1653 Rehab Project

Limits: SH 64 near Ben Wheeler, southwest to FM 858 at Martin Mills
Contractor: Drewery Construction Company, Inc., of Nacogdoches
Cost: $3.9 million
Anticipated Completion Date: Fall 2018
Road base preparation is underway on this project that consists of rehabbing and widening the roadway. Expect lane closures and delays with flaggers providing traffic control.

FM 1861 Rehab Project

Limits: From SH 19 to FM 2339
Contractor: A.L. Helmcamp, of Buffalo, TX
Cost: $2.4 million
Anticipated Completion Date: Fall 2018
A temporary traffic signal, in conjunction with a pilot car, is providing traffic control on this project that consists of rehabilitating and widening the existing roadway. Expect delays!

County Road 1825 Bridge Replacement Project

Limits: CR 1825 at UPRR .01 miles S of US 80 to SW of Grand Saline
Contractor: Longview Bridge and Road, Ltd.
Cost: $1.5 million
Anticipated Completion Date: Fall 2018
Work is being conducted on abutments, beams, retaining walls and bridge rail. CR 1825 is closed to traffic at the railroad crossing for the duration of construction.

Wood County

Crews plan to conduct pavement leveling on FM 2966 and ditch maintenance on FM 1643. Expect lane closures with flaggers providing traffic control.

Wood County construction projects updates:

SH 182, etc., Safety Treating Project

Limits: Various Roads – Current work on FM 2869 from FM 2088 south 8.12 miles to FM 49
Contractor: Highway 19 Construction, LLC.
Cost: $1.2 million
Anticipated Completion Date: Spring 2018 for FM 2869; Late Summer 2018 for all work
The contractor is conducting structure and driveway work on SH 182. Expect single lane closures and minor delays with flaggers providing traffic control. Work also continues on the FM 49 cross structures. Expect minor delays due to single lane closures with flaggers providing traffic control.

I-20 Total Maintenance Contract

• Limits: Gregg, Smith and Van Zandt counties

• Contractor: Firemen Excavation

Routine maintenance activities are ongoing on I-20 with moving operations throughout the week:

– Debris Removal: Monday from the inside lane through all three counties

– Debris Removal: Tuesday from the outside lane through all three counties

– Guardrail Repairs: Tuesday and Wednesday through all three counties

– Sign Maintenance: Wednesday and Thursday in all three counties

– Herbicide Operations: Main lane moving operations daily
